Digital Gonzo 47: Predator
This is the first of a two part series focusing on the dedicated Predator movies. We’ve held back on the Alien vs. Predator series for now, to achieve some semblance of narrative consistency but we will cover them later as a postscript to the Alien saga.
This first episode is all about the 1987 original (and some would say best). What seems at first an exercise in machismo actually becomes a fascinating study in hunter and warrior culture as well as a bloody tale of hardened men taken to the heart of darkness. Starring the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger himself alongside Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura and Bill Duke, stalked by the forgotten but exceptionally talented physical performer Kevin-Peter Hall as the alien hunter himself.
Music by Alan Silvestri.
Many thanks to Neil ‘Kid Dogg’ Taylor of GameBurst and KDS 2.0 for joining me, along with Matt ‘Mattharrier’ Ramsey of Dorktunes and the GP community for yet another deep Gonzo delve into a classic movie. We return in a week for the concluding show which will cover both 1992’s Predator 2 and 2010’s Predators.
On a side note, to play the Predator drinking game, every time one of us quotes the movie take a shot. You will be unconscious within half an hour.

I’m Spanish and about the bull fighting… you’re totally right. In the interest of fairness, I’ve to say that only part of Spanish society defends bull fighting as a worthy “cultural event”. Usually, the ones defending that idea are traditionalist who go to the most stupid extremes trying to make a point to defend their beloved slaughter. Seriously, if you can find any of their speeches translated to English, you’ll have a laugh.
