Return of the Jedi [Commentary]

Return of the Jedi [Commentary]Alex, Sharon, Neil and the other Alex return to finish the Original Trilogy. This has always been a favourite of both Alex and Sharon so we were both surprised to find we had slightly less to say about it than the other two. With Star Wars you can talk about its influence and how they managed to make something immense from plywood and sand, with Empire you can delineate how they turned that into a genuinely brilliant sequel with everybody on board at the top of their game. With Jedi, there’s an immense fondness, but things started to get silly again, with the tiny cannibal bears and the burping frogs. It seems like everything to do with Luke and Vader, Yoda and the Emperor is top notch, arguably series highs. It’s the rest of the stuff that pulls it down, and most likely makes this less of a celebrated classic than Star wars and Empire. That doesn’t mean we don’t find a million things to say while we’re watching. And we just about manage to hold off on making what will surely be dated references to the new films. The Empire Strikes Back [Commentary]

We’re back with the shows designed to be listened to along with any HD version (and frankly most of the others) of the best Star Wars movie made to date. Neil Taylor of GameBurst and Alex Eding of the Plaid Hat Podcast move with us from discussions about the new ground broken by the original movie through to a universe thoroughly fleshed out and made all the more compelling by its sequel. Again, the best way to listen to this is in a darkened living room. It should sound like Sharon and I are on your left and James and Alex are on your right. Start it at the first second of the movie and don’t stop for any reason! Star Wars [Commentary]

Join us for the first of a series of commentaries on the original trilogy. Get yourself settled in on the couch with drinks and an array of tasty snacks and then play this through your TV. It will be like having Sharon and Alex on your left and Neil Taylor of GameBurst and Alex Eding of the Plaid Hat Games Podcast on your Right. This will sync up perfectly with the 2011 Blu Ray or the recent digital release of Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, although if you don’t mind it not matching exactly you can listen with any version of the original Star Wars. If Fox and Disney were going to re-release the original unaltered 77/80/83 cuts on Blu Ray or DVD they would have done so by November 2015. Because after the nostalgia window we’re in peaks with Episode VII it will be all about Star Wars moving forward. So in my expert opinion, Just get the blu rays now.
